My top three ‘musts’ of our lovely Scarborough

RE your question, what makes a Scarborian?

I believe my husband Des Wood is a true Scarborian. He was born in 1926 at the Golden Ball on Sandside, which makes him a bottom-ender, ie being born below the buttercross.

He was educated at St Peter’s, Gladstone Road, and Scarborough High School. He’s lived in at least 13 different residences and has lived here with me for 54 years apart from three years in Malton.

I on the other hand have only lived here for 60 years having come here from Leeds to complete my education.

I regard myself as a Scarborian and wouldn’t live anywhere else.

I would say that: 1 Walk round the Marine Drive; 2 The view from Olivers Mount; 3 Visiting the Clock Cafe are three important not-to-miss experiences.

Followed by Paul’s Cafe on the West Pier, swimming in both north and south open air swimming pools long ago, driving along Forge Valley and many more.
