A new furniture shop has opened in Scarborough - with a pledge to help provide items for flood victims.
The Community Furniture Store opened its doors last week at Mount View Business Park, Salisbury Street, off Seamer Road.
Margot McDermott, store project manager, said: “Using the experience gained through our existing stores in York and Selby, our Scarborough store will operate in a very similar fashion.
“We will be helping local people to protect the environment by re-using pre owned furniture.
“We will be helping to create homes by offering low cost household goods. We will also be building the esteem and confidence of local volunteers through our job placement scheme.” Customers can choose from a wide selection of donated good or order from a small selection of new goods.
Everyone is welcome and people on means-tested benefit get even better value, with a 25 per cent discount on pre owned goods.
The charity is offering free furniture to flood victims in York and North Yorkshire, as organisations around the country continue to send extra supplies for those hit worst by the Christmas flooding.
