A new restaurant is being opened at the Stephen Joseph Theatre as part of a social enterprise link-up project.
Yorkshire Coast Homes’ social enterprise, The BEACH has gone into partnership with the theatre to offer employment opportunities for people in the local community.
The “Bistro at the SJT” will be open throughout the day as well as before theatre shows.
The new team has worked closely with Totally Locally Scarborough to ensure that they are making use of the many local businesses that supply top quality produce right on their doorstep.
Head chef Jared Williams said: “It’s an enormous opportunity and privilege for me to help establish a new restaurant in the town.
“The Bistro at the SJT is a project run by The BEACH so as well as providing top quality food our additional aim is to help young people into employment. This part of the job really excites me as it has always been my ambition to pass on my skills and experience to others.
“I really hope the public support this new venture as I believe it can provide fantastic opportunities for local people.’
Georgette Donoghue, head of communications at the theatre, said: “We’re delighted to welcome THE BEACH to the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
“As well as providing theatregoers with a varied food offer, this is an excellent partnership that benefits the community and we hope it brings more people closer to their local theatre.”
After two successful taster days, Bistro at the SJT will open its doors to the public this weekend on Saturday May 2 between 11am and 4pm.
Advance bookings can be made at the SJT box office.
