A new scheme to help people save energy - and cash on their bills - has been launched in Hanover Road.
The Choices 4 Energy advice shop was opened on Saturday by Scarborough’s mayor, Cllr Helen Mallory.
The initiative, which will give people access to free and impartial advice, has come about through a partnership between Scarborough Council, Yorkshire Energy partnership, White Rose Home improvement Agency, Yorkshire Coast Homes, Home Group and Sanctuary Group.
On opening the shop, Cllr Mallory said: “We have a very diverse borough geographically and economically with many properties having solid walls and no gas supply, so there are many challenges involved with educating and advising our population.” She added: “I’m sure that the Choices 4 Energy centre will be a great benefit to our residents. A huge thank you to the councillors and officers that made this happen.”
Green party councillor Dilys Cluer said: “I’m really thrilled. I’ve wanted something like this for a very long time. It will help people save money, but it will also help people save energy and protect the environment.”
Energy advisor Helen James, who will be running the centre, said: “There’s lots of help out there. It’s just about making people more aware of it.”
