THE Commercial pub is offering a new twist on open-mic nights for lovers of musical theatre, burgeoning Broadway babies and Wicked wannabes.
Have you ever wanted to sing the show-stopping solo from Wicked or the duet from Phantom but couldn’t find a venue?
If so, you are invited to an open-mic night with a difference, next Monday, from 7pm.
Organiser Matt Stradling says: “We provide the PA, keyboard and pianist; you bring the song and the singer.
“We have a selection of backing tracks and sheet music for on-the-night spots but bring your own if you have it.
“It’s a new idea to Scarborough and one which I hope will become a regular part of the town’s music calendar.
“For a few years I have wanted a way of showcasing new and upcoming musical theatre talent and have been frustrated by the narrow opportunities offered by local societies and groups.
“Having enjoyed the local open-mic scene, I thought that perhaps something like this could exist for those who want to sing show tunes.
“We hope it will provide an opportunity for new talent, young and old, to gain experience and try out numbers unlikely to make it to the Scarborough stage. It’s also a chance for the musical theatre community from all societies to get together, network, share their passions and spot new talent”.
