SCARBOROUGH’S Rotary Club has welcomed a new face to head the group in its 90th anniversary year.

In a handover ceremony held at Scarborough Rugby Club, Nigel Wood was appointed the club’s new president, succeeding Michael Goode.

Owner of Peace of Mind Financial Solutions based in Falsgrave Road, he takes the presidency after being a member of the Rotary Club of Scarborough for 10 years.

Mr Wood said he counts the role a real honour: “I am proud to follow in the footsteps of so many people who have worked so hard in order to provide help and support to so many over the years,

“Our club this year celebrates its 90th Anniversary and we are always looking to ways that we can be of help in our community and through our international links, further afield.”

At the ceremony, a talk was also given by Dr Richard Sheppard, the Chamberlain of York Minster, and musical entertainment was provided by the Manhatton Voices.

Mr Wood now adds to his charitable CV; he is a lifelong member of the Salvation Army and often organised the Music for a Summer Evening charity concert which raised over £20,000 for various local charities.

He is one of the founder organisers of the annual Festive Spectacular Charity Carol Concert held at the Spa which has raised nearly £60,000 for local organisations since 1999.

The club holds meetings every Monday at 6.30pm at Scarborough Rugby Club and welcomes anyone who may be interested in giving of their time and energy to further the Rotary motto “Service above self”.
