Scarborough’s fundraising Night Before the Colours event has been hailed the best yet.
The event, held at the Spa Complex on Friday, was attended by 180 people and has raised around £11,000 for good causes.
The money will be shared out between the Royal British Legion, SSAFA Forces Help, the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund, the Cambridge Centre and the RNLI.
Tony Viney, one of the organisers, said: “It’s the biggest one we’ve done and by raising £11,000 we’ve broken the record from last year.
“The speaker, Corporal Andy Reid, received a standing ovation and there were a few tears. He’s an amazing and very inspirational man.”
Corporal Reid is a triple amputee from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment.
Night Before the Colours is now in its fifth year.
