FAVOURITE book characters were brought to life at a Scarborough nursery to mark World Book Day.

Youngsters at Happy days in Gordon Street donned fancy dress to celebrate the special event and staff joined in the fun too.

Nursery owner Moira Willgrass said: “We’re big believers in books. The children have their own book bags, just like at school, and we have our own library.

“It’s about helping them prepare for school and getting them interested in books.”

The nursery caters for youngsters from birth to pre-school age and has 25 children at any one time.

Mrs Willgrass said: “During the day we did lots of reading and the children picked out the books that featured their favourite character.

“It was a big party and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The children were really excited when they saw staff had dressed up too!” World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries across the world.
