Staff, parents and children at Mad Hatters Nursery in Scarborough celebrated the success of their first year in business by having a Mad Hatter themed tea party.

The manager of the nursery on Nelson Street, Becky Harper, said: “The last year has gone very well and we’ve really grown. We started out with one child and now we’ve got 40 plus.”

The celebration involved staff dressing up as the characters from Lewis Caroll’s classic novel Alice in Wonderland.

The children, aged from birth to four years, donned fancy dress and helped to make iced buns and cupcakes for the tea party as well as joining in the Mad Hatter’s antics with sing-alongs and dances.

Parents were also invited and some couldn’t resist taking part in the fun and games to mark the occasion.

Becky added that everyone involved had a “fab time” and at the end of the day the guests “all went home with balloons and sweets”.
