Hundreds of people are gearing up for the annual McCain Yorkshire Coast 10K and Family Fun Run.

The event takes place this Sunday starting at Scarborough’s Spa Complex.

The 10k will start at 10am and the Family Fun Run begins at 11.30am.

Entry for the 10K is at capacity, but the Family Fun Run is open to entries until the day of the event.

More than 100 local children are being offered the chance to take part in the fun run for free, thanks to Yorkshire Coast Homes.

The 2.5km fun run, organised by Scarborough Athletics Club and McCain Foods, is aimed at getting young people on the coast active for a good cause.

As the chosen charity for this year’s event, Yorkshire Coast Homes has offered free entry for a number of primary schools in the community..

Following their invitation, students from more than five schools in the area, including Gladstone Road, Friarage and Seamer and Irton have signed up.

Shaun Tymon, chief executive at Yorkshire Coast Homes, said: “We’re very happy to have this opportunity to encourage young people to participate. It’s one of the major highlights of North Yorkshire’s sporting calendar and the fun run is always lively and well supported.“
