Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre has lost the council £55,000 in the last 12 months.

A report, that will go before Scarborough Borough Council’s cabinet on Tuesday, shows that once more the 6,000 seater venue has failed to turn a profit.

The report states that the amount the council is losing is reducing year on year and expects it to break even next summer.

It states: “Net income at the Open Air Theatre is lower than budget (£77,000) however reduced expenditure at the venue on areas such as licencing and repairs will reduce this deficit to £55,000.

“This deficit shows a marked reduction when compared to 2013/14 (£127,000) as management work towards the aim of the venue breaking even next year and showing a profit against budget in 2017/18.”

Audience figures and ticket sales for this summer’s concerts are due to be released next month.
