ENTRANTS in this years Miss Scarborough competition are set to be whittled down ahead of the ceremony next month.

All 23 girls faced a grilling from organiser Diane Yalezo, as well as reigning Miss Scarborough Leanne Wilford, at the Crown Spa Hotel yesterday.

If the girls pass, they will make the shortlist for the glittering event, which takes place at the Flower of May in Lebberston on April 21.

The number of entrants are up compared to last year, and organiser Diane is thrilled with the standard of this year’s entrants.

She said: “It’s one of the best yet.

“The standard’s been very good, and there’s been more interest this year, and not just from Scarborough, but the whole district.”

And speaking just before she hands over her crown, Leanne said: “I don’t want to give it up.

“I have really enjoyed this year, and people even recognise me because of it.”

And her advice to this year’s winner? “Just be yourself and enjoy every second of it.”
