Scarborough folk young and old were out in force to celebrate the Pancake Day tradition of skipping on the seafront.

Many youngsters enjoyed an afternoon off school to skip, with Foreshore Road closed off to traffic for the occasion.

Lydia Wiseman, of Crossgates, was at the seafront with her sons Lewis, nine, and Kian, three.

She said: “It’s great! We come down every year. No one ever seems to heave heard of it if they’re not from Scarborough.”

Scarborough Sea Cadets were also busy serving up pancakes and hot drinks to warm the crowds from their headquarters in East Sandgate.
