MEMBERS of an Eastfield gym are using pedal power to raise funds for a Scarborough hospice next month.
They will be joined by instructors at Eze Fitness Club in Dunslow Road for a Zumbathon on Friday November 4, and a Spinathon on static exercise cycles on Saturday November 5, and sponsor money will be donated to St Catherine’s Hospice.
Laura Baudoino, the gym manager, said: “It’s a local charity which has a lot of meaning to the staff and members – everybody knows somebody that has been touched by cancer.
“It means more to our members if we do something for a local charity.”
She added they were hoping to raise as much cash as possible and there would be a celebration for participants after the event. She said: “There are some places left but not a lot.”
Hospice fundraiser Penny Campbell said it was good news that people wanted to raise funds. She added: “We rely hugely on the generosity of the community because we receive less than 18 per cent from the Government.
“It’s only due to the hard work of local businesses and the community supporting us that we’ve been able to provide care for our patients for more than 25 years.”
