Whitby in Bloom receives generous donation from Esk Valley Railway Development Company
“It was quite a devastating blow,” said Whitby in Bloom trustee Steve Smith.
The theft, from their polytunnel on the Carrs, Ruswarp, was discovered when Steve went to water the plants on July 16. Someone had evaded the CCTV coverage, gone to the back of the polytunnel, sliced through the cover, ripped out the wiring and stolen the equipment.

Hide AdLisa Williams, PR & Marketing Manager for EVRDC heard about the theft and discussed the situation with the company’s Social Media Co-ordinator, Sally Michulitis and EVRDC chair Alan Williams, to see if there was anything they could do.
Lisa said: “We thought about it and decided that as we are not spending money travelling to meetings at the moment, we could channel £130 to Whitby in Bloom to replace the battery that they’ve had stolen.”
Lisa approached the Whitby in Bloom committee to see if they still required the full amount, but no other donations had been forthcoming. Lisa said the organisation was really grateful when she told them of EVRDC’s donation: “Amanda Smith, chair of Whitby in Bloom said to me: ‘It’s not just the fact you enabled us to purchase a new pump, it’s the fact that you thought about it in the first place.”
Lisa said: “We are so delighted with what they’ve done to improve Whitby Station with their planting we felt it was the least we could do.”
