A Scarborough man is gearing up for a fundraising challenge which has been dubbed “Pete’s Big Three”.

Peter McFarlane, 46, of Whin Bank, is taking on a 192-mile Coast to Coast Walk on July 17, the Stockton River Rat Race on August 29 and the 13-mile Great North Run on September 13.

He is raising funds for Macmillan, who have been supporting one of his colleagues and a former colleague who have been battling cancer.

Peter, who works for North Yorkshire County Council’s health and adult services department, said: “I’ve been doing charity events for a couple of years now, but doing three big events together is quite unique.

“The Coast to Coast is a huge undertaking and will take me 10 days, carrying my full kit from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay.

“It will be my fourth Great North Run and it’s always fantastic. The atmosphere just carries you along.”

However, Peter is new to the Stockton River Rat Race - a 10K course where you swim, run and splash through an urban obstacle course. He will take part in the event with his stepdaughter Jaimee, 16.
