A Scarborough takeaway is marking what may be the final days of life as we know it – by launching a special pizza to mark the apocalypse.

Castello Pizzeria in North Marine Road is serving the special meaty recipe until December 21, the day prophesised by the Mayan calendar as the end of days.

Owner Sam Akkary said: “I reckoned there were a lot of people in town who still hadn’t tried my food. Time seems to be running out so I thought I’d create a pizza with nearly all of the menu on it.”

The ‘End Of The World’ is a monster 12-inch pizza with a huge 13 toppings.

It is the most expensive dish on the menu, but Mr Akkary joked: “Yes, it’s expensive, but let’s face it – what are we saving our money for?”

Any customers who try the pizza will receive a voucher for money off a pizza after the gloomy date, and Mr Akkary added: “It’s a win-win situation for me. Either nothing happens on the big day and life goes on – or I avoid having to sell food at a discount!”

The pizzeria is offering customers a chance to name the dish on its Facebook page.
