A SCARBOROUGH boarding kennels is appealing for dog lovers to give some belated festive cheer to three young pups.

Cliff Top Boarding Kennels, in Burniston, has launched a search for new owners to give the pets a new lease of life after they were abandoned over the Christmas period.

The dogs include Woody, a large eight-month-old crossbreed, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers Izzy and Maddie.

Jill Pennock, owner of the kennels said the problems of animals being discarded in the new year was still commonplace, despite numerous campaigns warning prospective owners of the responsibilities that having a dog carries.

She said: “Christmas is generally a happy, festive time but unfortunately for puppies and young dogs it can be quite the opposite.

“Many people get puppies as Christmas presents because they’re cute but they don’t appreciate that they are taking on a dog for life.

“Once Christmas is over, the novelty wears off and they decide they don’t want the dog anymore so they abandon them.

“This is unfortunately the case for many dogs and January and February often sees more younger dogs in need of homes and we desperately need people to consider re-homing rescue dogs.

Mrs Pennock added the dogs were all affectionate and friendly animals who just needed a fresh start.

She said: “Woody is a very friendly chap who gets on well with people and other dogs and has a great temperament but needs an owner who can spend time with him to teach him the basics.

“Izzy is around 14-weeks-old and is a lovely little girl who loves other dogs but has not had the best start in life. Maddie is a sweet and affectionate little dog who loves people and gets on with other dogs too.”

Anyone interested in re-homing one of the dogs should contact (01723) 870456.

- Mrs Pennock added the kennels were heavily reliant on fundraising and donations and confirmed members of staff would be taking part in this year’s Race for Life to raise funds to continue that them. Anyone who wants to join in on the day or offer sponsorship should call the above phone number.
