A TEAM of electricians sparked a fund-raising boost for the Scarborough Lifeboat following a trek along the North Yorkshire Moors.

The electrical engineers from B Danby and Co, in Albemarle Back Road, took part in the 42-mile Lyke Wake Walk, taking them from the starting point in Osmotherly to Ravenscar.

The team, made up of John Jewell, Joe Moon, Steve Armitage and Dan Close, took part in the overnight walk in June last year, and raised a total of £833.67 for the lifeboat.

Recently they visited the lifeboat’s crew to present a cheque, and in return were given a tour of the lifeboat station and a ride out on the lifeboat.

Electrical supervisor Mr Close said: “Myself and all the lads are really glad we have supported Scarborough lifeboat as they are all top blokes and it’s a really worthwhile local cause.

“We are attempting the walk again this year, hopefully in better conditions and during the day. The weather last June was shocking and myself and my colleague Joe dropped out after about 20 miles due to injury.

“My manager John and colleague Steve went on in gruelling conditions to finish the walk in just over 18 hours, complete with blisters and tired legs. Having not completed the walk last year, this year I am determined to finish!”

Mr Armitage has completed the walk a number of times before, and Mr Moon went on to finish it with his brother-in- law Michael Joy, a month after his initial attempt.
