Police are appealing for information after a 19-car collision during a rally in Dalby Forest, near Pickering.
During stage one of the TrackRod Rally Yorkshire on Friday, September 26, a pile of woodchips which was being used as a braking marker ahead of a corner was covered up with tree branches.
With the braking marker hidden from view the drivers had no indication of the upcoming corner and 19 cars came off the track.
Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident.
Officers believe that the braking marker may have been deliberately covered up to cause a collision which people could film and are trying to establish whether any criminal offences have been committed.
The police are urging witnesses to come forward and anyone who saw the collision may have information that can help the investigation.
If you can assist officers with their enquiries, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for PC David Meer or Malton police.
