Police are asking for people who witnesses a coach crash in Scarborough on Saturday to come forward,

The single deck coach with 44 passengers left the road for reasons unknown and five people sustained minor injuries as it came to a stop, just before 5pm.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The coach was on a weekend excursion to the east coast and had travelled across from Southport and in was travelling towards Scarborough when the collision happened.

"Four passengers and the driver sustained minor injuries in the crash. They were taken to Scarborough Hospital and released later that same evening.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw the coach prior to the crash, or who has any information is asked to contact police. Dial 101, press 2 and ask to speak to TC283 Gareth Gilleard.

"Please quote reference number 12160102672 when passing on information."
