Police have confirmed a woman tragically died in this morning’s collision at Allerston.

The accident, involving a Ford Fiesta and Ford transit van, occurred on the A170 between Ebberston and Thornton-le-Dale at 8.50am.

Police have this afternoon confirmed a woman, who was the front seat passenger in the Ford Fiesta, sadly died at the scene of the collision.

Officers are currently working with her next of kin to notify other close family members of her death. This is expected to take some time.

The man who was driving the Fiesta was taken to Scarborough Hospital and a woman, who was a rear seat passenger, was taken via air ambulance to James Cook University Hospital. They both remain in hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The 52-year-old local man arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

The road reopened at 3.30pm this afternoon.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Gareth Gilleard.
