The police helicopter scoured Raincliffe Woods for casualties after a car flipped over in a brutal car smash in Barmoor lane.

Police sniffer dogs were called out after reports that several passengers fled the crash on Thursday night, heading into the woods and leaving a “trail of blood” behind them.

The one vehicle crash happened at around 7.45pm, and a local man told The Scarborough News that the Peugeot 207 flipped over “four or fives” as it approached the duck pond.

Police arrived at the scene, where they found an injured man, who was immediately rushed to Scarborough Hospital for treatment.

Eye witnesses then told officers that others may have been in the vehicle when it crashed.

Officers then searched the area by air and foot, and eventually a further casualty was located, and subsequently taken to Scarborough Hospital.

During the search, dozens of people took to Facebook to Twitter as the helicopter hovered above them.

Police are appealing to anyone who may of witnessed the incident to contact the officer in the case PC 1 Alan Robson.
