Police name young crash victim

Police have today confirmed Friday’s fatal accident on the A170 tragically claimed the life of 17-year-old Kirsty Findlay.

Kirsty, from Ebberston, died at the scene of the accident, which occurred at Allerston at 8.50am on Friday morning.

An inquest into her death is due to be opened and adjourned shortly.

The collision involved a Ford Fiesta, in which Kirsty was travelling as a front seat passenger, and a Ford Transit Van.

The 19-year-old man driving the Fiesta was treated at Scarborough Hospital before being released and the 46-year-old woman, who was the rear seat passenger, remains in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, in a stable condition.

The 52-year-old driver of the Ford Transit remains on bail while police enquiries continue.

Traffic Sergeant Pete Wood, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I am asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and contact the police, if they have not already done so.

“The family has requested that they be left in peace at this difficult time, while they come to terms with their tragic loss.”

Following Kirsty’s death friends have taken to social networking site Facebook to pay their respects to the young teen. A page, called R.I.P Kirstiie Leanne Findlay has been set up, with almost 2,000 people ‘liking’ it and hundreds of tributes being posted.

Flowers and tributes have also been placed at the side of the road where the accident occurred.
