A Scarborough resident angry at the planned demolition of the Futurist unfurled a banner and yelled at councillors at the end of today's cabinet meeting at Town Hall.

Michelle Richardson stood from the public gallery as the meeting was concluded and draped her homemade banner stating "Save Our Futurist" from the balcony.

She then left the cabinet in no doubt as to her feelings on the matter.

"Save the Futurist," she yelled.

"The whole town is watching you and if you allow this monstrosity to be built then you will have to leave Scarborough because your lives here will be untenable."

While some councillors stayed to listen, most made their way out of the chamber when Ms Richardson was making her protest.

Speaking to The Scarborough News outside the Town Hall she said that she was just representing the views of the town.

"People have had enough," she said.

"I'm just saying what people are telling me. Nobody wants them to do this, there has been no public referendum, we have not been asked our views so someone had to tell them that.

"They need to know that they are being watched and that they will not be allowed to get away with this."

The Futurist is set to be discussed at a meeting of the full council next month.
