A MAJOR project to regenerate a neglected corner of Barrowcliff has been approved by councillors.
Recently it was revealed that the project to transform Jonno’s Field into a wildlife have had been successful in securing grant funding of £100,000 with hopes of getting the remaining £50,000 from other sources including Scarborough Council.
Yesterday Cabinet members formally approved the scheme which is being organised by Groundwork North Yorkshire.
Speaking at yesterday’s meeting Cllr Bill Chatt, a ward councillor who lives near the site, said the whole My Barrowcliff initiative had generated a lot of interest in the area from local residents.
He added: “At this week’s residents meeting I was pleased to see that there were more people with an interest in where they live. I am impressed with the way they’ve engaged with this.”
Cllr Tom Fox, the leader of the council, said: “It’s fantastic that, when you think just a few years ago we couldn’t get them across their doorstep.”
