A SPECIAL sports charity dinner hosted by the mayor of Scarborough in March will feature legendary snooker star Dennis Taylor, pictured, it has been announced.
The mayor, Cllr John Blackburn and his wife Jackie, have extended an open invitation to the sports dinner on 10 March at Scarborough Rugby Club, with tickets priced £35 per person.
The mayor’s civic office is working with international swimming coach and 2012 Olympics official Sam Greetham and local business trader Steve Hamblett on arrangements for this one-off event.
Cllr Blackburn said: “I am extremely pleased to be involved in this event as my mayoral theme for my year in office is sports development and I am very keen to bring as many sporting clubs and organisations as possible together.
“By organising this event we also hope to raise as much money as possible for the Mayoress’s Community Fund, which could then help to support local sporting clubs who may apply to the fund for money in the future.”
Mr Greetham added: “John Blackburn has always been a massive supporter for most of his working life of all sports and that was why we came up with the idea of hosting a sports dinner to recognise the outstanding commitment that John has given and also to support the Mayoress’s Community Fund during his mayoral year.”
Dennis Taylor, the former world snooker champion, and Martin Gold, a renowned stand-up comedian, have been secured as guest speakers at the event and promise to provide excellent entertainment and laughter for guests.
Invitations to all local sporting clubs have gone out and tickets will soon be on sale.
The ticket price also includes a four-course dinner.
