A SCARBOROUGH woman represented local female workers at a national conference in Eastbourne.
Hayley Pickles, who works at Tesco Westwood and is a representative for the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW), attended the TUC Women’s Committee Conference.
Speakers included Yvette Cooper, shadow minister for women and equalities, and there were delegates from as far afield as Columbia and New Zealand.
Mrs Pickles said: “It was fabulous. The theme of the conference was women against the cuts and all the major unions were there.
“People were speaking about how the cuts will affect them in their sector. For example a benefits will be around £1,200 less for women having a baby.”
The delegates also sent messages of support to their counterparts in Japan.
An information event is being held by Miss Pickles at Tesco Westwood on March 24.
