Scores of protesters are being monitored by police in Scarborough town centre.

It is believed there have been clashes between members of the English Defence League (EDL) and anti-racism protesters, including members of the Anti-Nazi League.

The EDL members from across Yorkshire are understood to have met near the Train Station at 1pm, where anti-racism protesters were also gathered.

The groups then made their way further into town - watched by a number of police officers.

Police cars were parked across the precinct as officers lined the pavement.

North Yorkshire EDL were protesting under the banner “Respect our forces - we want our country back”.
