A new business running craft workshops and vintage themed parties for adults and children over eight years old has opened on Queen Street, Scarborough.

The owner of the new concern, called Proud as Punch, Designs and Events, is Jessica Barron.

Jessica used to run the classes at Violet Lux in St Nicholas Street, where the workshops became extremely popular.

She also hosted local charity events such as The Great Yorkshire Bunting knit which attracted many people from around the Yorkshire area.

Jessica grew up in Filey and moved back to Scarborough after studying Painting and Printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art, with the intention of getting a job to tide her over while she worked on her artwork, but instead started making things, such as simple cushions and crochet mittens.

Jessica now has her own fully kitted-out workshop on Queen Street.

Jessica said: “It’s the perfect location for me because it’s a hub of creativity, with Vitae Lampadae Theatre Company above me, and Heidi’s Coffee House below me – Heidi’s serve the most amazing soul food, and is well worth a visit.

“Scarborough has a rich, artistic community. I’m so excited to be part of it, and part of a group of young business people in the area!”
