A SCARBOROUGH pub landlord got the shock of his life when more than £429 million was accidentally transferred into his account.
Dave Edmond, landlord of The Angel in North Street, couldn’t believe his eyes when he checked a statement from Punch Taverns for the pub’s fruit machine.
It showed that £429,496,588.71 had been deposited in the account – and swiftly taken back out again.
Mr Edmond, who has been at the Angel for eight years, said: “I was in utter shock. My eyes went straight down to the bottom to see what the balance was!
“It looks like they realised what had happened immediately afterwards. It should have been £112!”
Mr Edmond is now planning on framing the statement and displaying it in the pub, as proof of his “millionaire moment”.
He said: “Everyone I’ve told has just burst out laughing. It’s just so funny. But no-one can say I wasn’t a multi-millionaire!”
A spokesperson from Punch Taverns said: “We apologise for the administrative error, but we’re glad it briefly made Dave a millionaire and he saw the funny side.”
After discovering the mishap, Mr Edmond tried his luck by rushing out and buying a lottery ticket.
He said if he did come into that amount of money for real, he would struggle to get his head around it, but would probably buy a Caribbean island.
Mr Edmond discovered his fleeting fortune in the same week that Dave and Angela Dawes, of Wisbech, Cambs, jointly won the £101,203,600.70 Euro-Millions jackpot.
They have vowed to give £20million to family and friends.
Mr Edmond has also had a look online at The Sunday Times Rich List, to see who he would have beaten in the cash stakes.
He would not have been as wealthy as Richard Branson, who is the 19th richest man in the UK with £3.085 billion.
But he would have beaten Simon Cowell, who is worth £200 million, and Sir Elton John, whose fortune is around £195 million.
Top of 2011’s Rich List was steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and family, with a whopping £17.51 billion.
