PUPILS from a Scarborough have raised an impressive £350 to buy a lifejacket for the town’s lifeboat crew.

John Porter, the station’s volunteer education presenter, visited Northstead Primary School on RNLI SOS Day in January to give a talk to the school and mentioned that the project for this year’s appeal was for new lifejackets,

He said: “These have been developed by the RNLI and Crewsaver and are being introduced this year to replace the ones currently in use which are nearing the end of their operational life.

“This talk sparked an interest with the pupils and they decided that they would raise the money to purchase a lifejacket and, in what seems like no time at all, the money has been raised.”

After receiving the cheque John was able to thank all of the pupils for their ongoing support and added: “The lifejacket you have raised the money for will be used by one of our volunteer crew members for many years to come and will keep them safe whilst saving the lives of others.”
