St Martin’s Ampleforth has hosted the final of this year’s Independent Association of Prep Schools Performance Poetry Competition.

More than 100 budding young poets from across the UK entered the competition in three different categories, and entrants were free to use any poetic form of their choice.

The poems were published in a commemorative book.

The book was presented to each finalist at the recital, which took place in Gilling Castle, home to St Martin’s Prep School.

The headmaster of St Martin’s Ampleforth, Dr David Moses, said: “this was a delightful event and the children performed their poetry with great confidence and poise.

“Each and every poem gave us an insight into the author’s personality and in each instance we were stunned by the talent of everyone who took part in this very special event.

“It is an honour for us to host this annual competition.”

Anya Swan (Chorister School, Durham) was the overall winner. The runners up were Gloria Zheng from St Martin’s Ampleforth and Maximillian Vinnikov from Belmont Mill Hill Prep School.
