The new Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire presented Scarborough-based manufacturer Unison with Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

Barry Dodd CBE was at the firms Eastfield headquarters on Wednesday last week to make the presentation on behalf of Her Majesty, at a ceremony sponsored by HSBC.

Presenting the award he said: “It gives me great pleasure to give this award to people I consider my friends.

“I was talking about Unison, about this award and what it means for the area to Her Majesty when I saw her last week.”

The award for International Trade is in recognition of achieving outstanding export success.

Over the past 12 months the tube bending machinery manufacturer has generated 70 per cent of its turnover through export sales.

Machines have been exported to Angola, France, Germany, Ghana, Mexico, Norway, Russia and the USA. Its current order book has machines destined for service in France, Germany, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Poland and the USA.

Peter Wilkinson, non-executive director of Unison, said: “This award is thoroughly deserved. It is just reward for Unison’s hard work and continued success.”
