Race fuels charity project

FUNDRAISERS are stepping up a gear to boost the charity cash pot for a Mexican house build project with Burniston Methodist Church Group.

Adrian Sartain, who attends the church, is driving up support having organised a three-hour race event at Scarborough Indoor Karting in Dunslow Road this week.

Teenagers and adults from the group will travel to a shanty town in the Tijuana district of Mexico next Easter to re-house a family, and need to raise £18,000 to get them there and pay for materials.

Mr Sartain said: “I wanted to do a different, fun fundraiser.

“There are 36 people paying to take part and we’re hoping to raise £1,000 to go towards the cause, so it will be a big chunk of what they need.”

“I think everyone’s looking forward to it and it should be a fun night.”

Six teams are taking part in the event including members from the North Yorkshire Police, Sixth Form College and Hull University.
