Raffle gives huge boost to hospice

THE Scarborough Friends of Martin House Children’s Hospice wish to announce the results of the charity’s Grand Car Raffle.

A number of tickets were sold in the Scarborough area and the winner was drawn on July 1 at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds.

The lucky winner was Anne Clarke from York with ticket number 0199104.

The prize was a Peugeot 107 Urban Lite and the raffle raised a massive £40,684 giving Martin House a welcome boost.

Fundraiser George Sowersby said: “Anne was a fitting winner as she used to be a nurse working nights in the teenage unit at Martin House.

“She left in October 2009 and has remained a stalwart supporter of the hospice ever since.

“Anne bought one book of raffle tickets for £10.”

He added that Anne now offers respite care for chronically sick and handicapped children in her home as part of York’s Share and Care scheme.

Mr Sowersby also thanked everyone in Scarborough and further afield who bought tickets, as the hospice needs to raise over £4 million a year.
