COFFEE lovers are in for a treat today and tomorrow as a number of Macmillan “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” events get under way in Scarborough.
The annual fundraiser is one of the most important events on the Macmillan Cancer Support calendar and will see thousands of pounds raised for the charity.
In Scarborough, the following coffee mornings will take place and everyone is welcome to attend:
l Today: Grand Hotel, St Nicholas Cliff from 10am to noon.
l Tomorrow: Samwedges, Falsgrave Road, from 8am to 11am where the money from the drinks will be donated to Macmillan. There will also be an array of tasty cakes.
l Dean’s Garden Centre, Seamer Road, between 9.30am and 11.30am for tea, coffee, and a selection of scrumptious treats.
l Plaxton Court, Woodlands Drive, from 10am to noon.
l Bon Marche, Westborough, 11.30am to 2pm.
l Castle Interiors in Castle Road welcome people to join them at their coffee morning between 10.30am and 2pm.
Tony Stephenson, director of Castle Interiors, said the company is delighted to be taking part.
He said: “It is imperative that despite the difficult times we are experiencing, charitable donations continue to fund the essential work of this charity.”
Their coffee morning has been organised with Macmillan in conjunction with kitchen appliance manufacturer Neff UK.
People who call in for a coffee will be able to try a cup from a top-of-the-range coffee machine, along with tempting cakes.
Macmillan’s annual “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” has raised over £60 million since 1991.
It is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event with over 43,000 people signing up to hold a coffee morning last year.
The national initiative has grown rapidly since its inception and several world records including the world’s highest coffee morning (on board a jet fighter in 2004) and the world’s most distant coffee morning (In Antarctica in 2002) have been broken in past years.
Sally Millington, fundraising manager for Macmillan, said: “It’s not too late to be involved. If you can’t hold a coffee morning on the official date, we really don’t mind.
“Every single mug raised and every single penny raised really does make a difference to people who are affected by cancer.”
