AN ILLEGAL “keep out” sign on a bridleway in Scarborough, and a footpath blockage and broken stiles near Cloughton have been discovered by Scarborough Ramblers in the past week.
The group, part of the national campaigning group the Ramblers’ Association, make regular reports of problems that hinder countryside access.
Footpaths officer Les Atkinson oversees the work, and co-operates with the North York Moors National Park Authority and county councils to help safeguard rights of way.
A spokesman for the Ramblers said: “In addition to our regular Sunday walks, our members are out and about on most days of the week, so we are uniquely placed to spot problems.
“Local people are fortunate to have such a wide variety of countryside on their doorsteps, and we want to ensure that everyone keeps the right to enjoy North Yorkshire’s beautiful coast, moors and dales.”
