Rare Malton engraving up for auction

Boulton and Cooper has been asked to sell an interesting collection of Malton memorabilia, including a rare 18th Century engraving of the town, next week.

The engraving is dominated by the two churches and Castle Howard in the distance. There is also a lithograph, circa 1850, showing a train on the York to Scarborough line which open in 1845.

Among the more personal items is a silver vinaigrette engraved with a view that seems to be York Minster, inside it is inscribed ‘L J Copperthwaite 1846’. Mrs Copperthwaite was the wife of William Copperthwaite, the agent for the Fitzwilliam Malton Estate.

The auction, next Wednesday (26 October) will take place at The Milton Rooms, Malton.
