Red noses on show to support charity

RUNNY noses, noses that grow and monster noses are just some of the new Red Nose Day fund-raising items available to people in Scarborough.

The official merchandise will be available across the area and Sainsbury’s is once again backing the national telethon which is due to take place on Friday, March 18. As well as stocking the special promotional items the supermarket is helping people to make a donation by rounding up their bill to the nearest pound at the checkout.

Staff will be holding their first fund-raiser for the event with a cake stall and raffle on Saturday, February 26.

Sainsbury’s Scarborough store manager Rob Brookes said: “We’re already starting to plan our fund-raising activities, and we’re really looking forward to our first fund-raiser. We hope our customers will enjoy and support the events we have planned.”

Nationally the supermarket chain has helped to raise more than £48 million for Comic Relief since the partnership began in 1999 – and this year the target is more than £9 million.

Comic Relief spends all the money raised by the public to give extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa a helping hand to turn their lives around.
