A Christmas charity box has been launched at Saba Thai in St Thomas Street in conjunction with The Scarborough News.

Restaurant owner Sahed Uddin will donate £1 per customer for the month of December - with customers also free to make a donation if they wish.

At the end of the month, the box will be opened and the full amount will be donated to a local charity which will be revealed at the time.

Mr Uddin said: “I think will make at least £1,000, but I’m hoping for more. Customers have been very supportive and someone has already donated £10!

“It’s a great opportunity to give something back.”

Last year the restaurant held a charity dinner where customers were given a free meal in return for a donation. The restaurant serves Thai and Indian food, each section with its own chef. The event raised £1,300 which was split between St Catherine’s Hospice, NSPCC, Children in Need and Stepping Stones.
