Avocado bathrooms, woodchip wallpapers and bathroom carpets are the three outdated home decor styles that Yorkshire residents despise the most, according to a survey by LEDHut.co.uk.

But the research by the LED lighting retailer also shows that, despite their dislike for the furnishings, more than two thirds of those surveyed said they had at least one in their homes.

The results of the survey, which include responses from 2,000 adults, revealed that one in six people in the region have Artex ceilings, while one in five have net curtains.

Chris Evans, from LEDHut.co.uk, said: “This research shows that Yorkshire has very clear ideas about what’s stylish and what’s not when it comes to home decorating – but what’s surprising is that many are still putting up with dated décor in their own households.

“Regardless of whether we’re living with sixties-inspired woodchip wallpaper or embracing the seventies trend for avocado bathroom suites, there are simple, effective and affordable ways to bring our home style firmly into the 21st century.”

The research also shows that one in 19 people have lava lamps in their home and nearly 10 per cent said they have 70s-style bathroom carpets.
