SCARBOROUGH’S RNLI is £700 better off after one of the town’s maritime groups held a fund-raising night.

Members decided to help the cause after one of the lifeboatmen gave a talk to members of Scarborough Boat Anglers Club.

The event was organised by Dave Lowe, Ken Gaches and Tanya Shipley.

Ernie Eves, the club chairman, said it was a fantastic total and thanked people for their generosity. He added: “I was gobsmacked by the amount of people that turned up and their generosity on the night.”

He said that the money was raised by a variety of ways, including quizzes and raffles, and the RNLI was an obvious choice to support. He said: “We depend of the RNLI if we have a problem – if anything goes wrong we know that they will be there.”
