THE Rotary Club of Scarborough has launched its annual Christmas collection in aid of local charities.

It will take place this week on the corner of Alma Square, next to the Lord Rosebery pub in Westborough.

Rotarians will be collecting donations in all weathers and were joined on the first day by Scarborough’s mayor, Cllr John Blackburn.

Publicity officer Ed Nelsey said: “The collection started on Friday and will continue until just before Christmas. It’s been going about 30 years and normally achieves a total of around £2,000 to £3,000.”

President Nigel Wood added: “I am delighted that we are again able to make this collection with the help of Father Christmas and of course the wonderful help and generosity of the people of Scarborough.”
