Twenty teams made a real splash for cash on the day during a number of hard-fought races with all proceeds raised going towards the new children’s outpatients unit at Scarborough Hospital and various other local charities.

Scarborough mayor Cllr John Blackburn officially opened the event before each boat featuring 17 paddlers and a drummer took to the water.

Peter Howgate, a member of the Cavaliers Fellowship Committee, said the event had been a great success.

“He added: “It has been fabulous and we have had so much help from so many people and businesses which has been great.

“We were a little concerned about the weather but it held off and everyone had a good time.”
