Coastguard teams rescued a RSPCA officer who was attending to a seal when they slipped on the rocks and broke a leg.

The incident occurred last night (Sunday August 28) near Raven Hall Hotel golf course, at Ravenscar.

Scarborough and Burniston coastguard teams assisted the team from Ravenscar and the coastguard helicopter and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service were called.

Due to the location and access to the rocks the HM coastguard helicopter rescue 912 was used to lower a paramedic to the casualty who was then airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary.

A spokesperson for Scarborough coastguard said: "There was in excess of 12 volunteers for this incident not including the full time paid members in our operations room.
We wish the RSPCA officer a speedy recovery."
