THE Samaritans service in Scarborough is holding two information events for would-be volunteers.
The sessions are at the Samaritans Centre in Trafalgar Street West on Monday at 7pm and January 29 at 10am.
A recent survey showed that money worries are on the rise alongside redundancy and difficulty finding work.
With many difficulties on the horizon in 2011, Samaritans is expecting a rise in calls over the next few months from people who are in emotional distress and need to talk.
The organisation urgently needs more volunteers to help continue this vital service in Scarborough. Kate, 30, has been a listening volunteer for a year. She said: “I wanted to give something back to society and to help people when they are in need. I work full-time but as the commitment is only 12 hours a month, I find it easy to fit in around my career.”
Anyone who is interested in finding out more is welcome to attend the events. For more details visit www.scarboroughsamaritans.net or call (01723) 369001.
