A man has appeared at York Crown Court charged with a string of house burglaries across the Scarborough area.

Mihai Dobrea, 45, is charged with burgling properties in the north of the town in February and March.

Dobrea, of Elders Street, Scarborough, appeared at York Crown Court on Friday of last week assisted by a Romanian interpreter.

His case was adjourned for a further mention on Friday May 26, after he denied five counts of burglary.

Judge Andrew Stubbs QC set a provisional trial date of August 14.

Dobrea was remanded in custody until the next hearing.

He spoke to confirm his name and to say he understood what was happening with the case.
