A Scarborough pianist will be making an appearance in Downton Abbey this Sunday.

Gary Matthewman, who grew up in the town and attended Scarborough Sixth Form College, will appear in the week’s episode as a pianist who accompanies Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, in her own guest appearance, as she sings a few numbers at the great home.

It is yet another link to the worldwide smash show for the town, following on from Scarborough-born Joanne Froggatt, who is increasingly becoming the breakout star of the programme, and fellow actress Penelope Wilson, who plays Isobel Crawley.

Penelope was born and raised in the town.

Gary said he was “excited” to be appearing in Downton Abbey but confirmed he has no lines and will be in just the one episode.

Downton Abbey will be shown on ITV at 9pm on Sunday.
