DETAILS of plans for the next phase of the Sands development in North Bay – which includes a new waterpark, family restaurant and 163 holiday homes – can be viewed at the Town Hall.
Residents can now view the plans and accompanying documents, including a full Environmental Impact Assessment, at an exhibition in the foyer of the Town Hall in St Nicholas Street.
The exhibition runs until Thursday December 1 between 8.30am and 5pm on weekdays. Planning officers will be in attendance at the exhibition between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday, if members of the public have any questions or wish to discuss the proposals.
Roland Duce, owner of developers Benchmark, said: “We now have an agreement for lease with a major waterpark operator and have submitted a detailed planning application for the whole of the development excluding the former Atlantis site. We have also paid the council the costs of building the Open Air Theatre.
“All of this means the next stage of this very important scheme can move a major step closer. The waterpark is our next priority and we hope to begin work on site next year for a summer 2013 opening.”
Jill Low, Scarborough Council’s planning manager, said: “This consultation process is the opportunity for Scarborough residents to have their say on the long awaited proposals for the next phases of the Sands development. We would encourage anyone interested in the future of North Bay to view the plans on the council’s website or visit the exhibition.
“All comments are welcome and they should be made in writing to the council by December 5.
“They will then be taken into consideration when the application is decided by members of the planning and development committee in the new year.”
David Archer, the council’s strategic director, said: “We are delighted with the progress the new owner of Benchmark has made.”
